The costs associated with running
a property in the Algarve differ according to variables such as age, size, and location.

Age and size are
a factor because, a property built in the 1980 ́s, for example, is usually less energy efficient in comparison to a more modern one, although newer properties are also usually larger in scale and have updated technology features which consume more energy.

Location is also a determining factor, as Resorts such as Quinta do Lago and Vale do Lobo have higher

monthly costs due to the first-class infrastructure that they provide, with an efficient supply of water, power, and waste disposal available to all owners.

Additional services, namely cleaning and maintenance, are also generally more expensive.

Properties purchased in the countryside are often more self- sufficient, as they tend to have their own free borehole water supply, septic tank, and gas deposits.

Local services are also often less expensive in these areas.
